Managing a Writing Workshop under the IKI-EUDR Project
In this consultancy, commissioned by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), SELVAR provided organization, management, and logistics services for the Writing Workshop held in Bogotá, Colombia in September 2025, as part of the preparatory phase of the IKI EUDR Project for compliance with the European Union’s regulation on landscape impact.
Analysis of the conservation status, management, and threats of savannas and
grasslands in Colombia, Paraguay, and Argentina
SELVAR carried out this consultancy for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), as part of the project “Safeguarding Overlooked Ecosystems: Protect, Manage and Restore Grasslands and Savannahs in Colombia, Paraguay and Argentina through multisectoral engagement and knowledge-sharing.” The objective was to conduct a regional analysis of the conservation status, management, and threats facing priority savannas, grasslands, and other grazing areas in South America, and to identify and characterize the main strategic stakeholders related to these areas.
Development of a payment mechanism to protect biodiversity
This project, led by RGC Américas SAS, received technical support from ECS Consultores and SELVAR. In line with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, SELVAR and ECS Consultores advised RGC Coffee on the development and validation of a methodology for paying coffee growers in the value chain for biodiversity protection.
Evaluations of the Global Green Growth Institute’s Colombia Country Program
Baastel hired SELVAR to support two independent evaluations under the Global Green Growth Institute’s (GGGI) Colombia Country Program. The evaluations, conducted between 2022 and 2024, analyzed the progress, impacts, and improvement opportunities of GGGI-supported initiatives in Colombia, with an emphasis on green growth, the forestry economy, sustainable livestock, and green investment services.
Knowledge appropriation and capacity building in Nature-based Solutions
The consortium of ECS Consultores SAS and SELVAR SAS carried out this consultancy under the SolNatura project, implemented by Fondo Acción, The Nature Conservancy, and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ). The consortium and Fondo Acción jointly designed a knowledge appropriation and capacity-building strategy for financing and implementing Nature-based Solutions, aimed at financial institutions and local organizations.
Integrating Nature-based Solutions into an urban infrastructure project in
Medellín
In this consultancy carried out with the University of Antioquia, the climate risks associated with the Parques del Río Norte urban infrastructure project in Medellín were analyzed and assessed, and Nature-based Solutions were proposed to strengthen climate change adaptation, biodiversity, and water management.
Nature-based solutions as a socio-environmental investment strategy
SELVAR advised EAN on integrating an NbS approach into CENIT’s Socio-Environmental Investment Program and Green Growth Strategy (CENIT is the hydrocarbon transportation company of the Ecopetrol group). This was aimed at creating a clear vision and guidelines for CENIT’s voluntary socio-environmental investment across its 228 municipalities of influence.
Implementing Nature-Based Solutions in cities
Nature-based Solutions for Urban Resilience in Colombia was a project funded by the German government’s IKI Small Grants climate initiative. This project was designed to implement the Guide for integrating nature-based solutions into urban planning.
Study on urban resilience in Colombia
The German development bank KfW, interested in continuing to support Colombian cities’ efforts to build resilience, hired SELVAR as an external service provider to identify a set of possible innovative approaches for German financial cooperation and partners in the field of urban climate resilience in Colombia.
Implementing Ecosystem-Based Adaptation with a gender and social inclusion approach
This project was carried out for the Climate and Development Knowledge Network (CDKN), under the Small Grants Program, aimed at the Water Funds of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. SELVAR supported CDKN’s Latin America and Caribbean chapter in strengthening water funds’ efforts on ecosystem-based adaptation and gender and social inclusion strategies.
Guidelines for designing, maintaining, and monitoring Nature-Based Solutions in cities
The C40 Cities Finance Facility commissioned SELVAR to develop a workshop on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in cities. The workshop, held during the CONVERSAPOLIS event in Bogotá in 2024, addressed the co-design, implementation, and monitoring of NbS. As part of the results, a handbook was published for the design, maintenance, and monitoring of urban NbS.
